This month opens up on a sunny and festive note as the world famous Rathyatra is being held in various cities of the world, including Paris. The 'yatra' is accompanied by singing, chanting, drums, cymbals and dancing. The procession ends with a stage show, festival and vegetarian prasadam feast.

This month, Paris will host the world's oldest Sanskrit theatre - Kuttiyattam- ritual theatre of Kerala- in an exceptional performance of Kalidas's Abhijnana Shakuntala in a single show of seven hours by the troupe of Natana Kairali under the artistic direction of Gopal Venu !

The month of June promises to be exciting with some stalwarts of Indian traditional and popular culture coming to Paris for their respective performances.

We also dedicate this month to Kuttiyattam- the oldest surviving theatre of Sanskrit. Readers will have an opportunity to see the reinterpretation of Kalidas's Shakuntala with the Natana Kairali Theatre presented in a single exceptional show that will last for seven hours !

A pretty hectic month this seems to be with quite a few India dedicated cycles of shows, performances and exhibitions in the mainstream cultural scene of Paris.
It is also to be mentioned that with the season of Pakistan in Paris, the overall culture of the sub-continent is under the spotlight.

This is clearly the season of Pakistan in Paris as various cultural manifestations tracing back to Pakistan become evident in the city.

Some curious readers may ask as to why am I writing about Pakistan when we have such a geo-centric name. We wish to reiterate that, for us, Indians are people with Indian roots in their hearts, body, mind or soul no matter what their geographic, national or political affiliation is.
